Fast Start Fuels an Age-Group Title Max Silverstein finished the marathon in 3:04:46, placing 19th overall and 15th among men in a field of 3,305 good enough for first in the M15-19 division. Silverstein's opening 10 miles were the strongest stretch of his race, covering that distance in 1:00:53 for a 6:05/mile pace, tucking into the top five overall through much of the early going. From there, his per-mile splits gradually eased through the middle miles, and the final six miles saw a more pronounced slowdown, with splits stretching into the 8- and 9-minute range as he passed near the lululemon Power-Up Zone around mile 22.5. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, the early pace stands out as the defining feature of the effort.
