Fast Start Gives Way to a Grinding Back Half Brody Tonks finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:33:23, a notable step back from his 3:25:11 marathon finish at the same race in 2025 and his 1:46:51 half marathon showing in 2024. Tonks opened strong, holding roughly 7:47 per mile through the first 11 miles - his most consistent stretch of the day - before the pace began to loosen through the middle miles. The back half saw a steady erosion, with elapsed pace climbing past 10 minutes per mile by mile 21 and settling near 10:27 per mile at the finish. The effort played out at altitude, with Boulder sitting over 5,000 feet, on a course that closes with a run down the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
