Strong Final Miles Power a Steady Marathon Finish Malia Dunn completed the marathon in 4:30:23, an average pace of 10:19 per mile. Her race unfolded in three distinct phases: a brisk start through the first five miles near 9:35 pace, a middle stretch from miles 6 through 19 where pace settled into the 9:5010:50 range, and a final six miles that tightened back down, closing at 9:35 by mile 26. That closing stretch stood out. From mile 20 to the finish, Dunn's per-mile splits dropped steadily 10:36, 10:16, 10:05, 9:43, 9:46, 9:35 a negative-split finish after nearly four hours of running. The effort carried her across the line on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a fitting cap to a race run at altitude, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet throughout the course.
