Steady Mid-Race Pace Anchors a Strong Marathon Finish Alan Ives completed the marathon in 3:54:40, an 8:57/mile average. He settled into a tight band between 8:40 and 8:55 per mile from the start through mile 20, then eased through the 2125 mile stretch before closing with an 8:15 final mile, his fastest of the race. His strongest full-mile stretch came earlier, at mile 11, covered in 8:10. Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, a backdrop for that closing kick down the Pearl Street Mall. Ives passed the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5 as his pace eased into the low 9:40s, before rallying over the final miles to bring it home.
