Strong Early Pace Fades Late but Finishes Strong Nazar Bodnarchuk completed the marathon in 4:03:17, an average pace of 9:17 per mile across the 26.2-mile distance at over 5,000 feet of elevation. Bodnarchuk built his race on a steady first 17 miles, holding between 7:58 and 8:12 per mile and never wavering far from an 8:00 pace through the midpoint. That consistency gave way in the second half, with mile 18 through mile 23 slipping into the 9:3017:47 range a stretch that included the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5. He answered well in the closing miles, dropping back to an 8:15 pace for mile 26 to close out the race on the Pearl Street Mall. A focus for next time could be finding a way to carry that early rhythm further into the back half.
