Steady Early Miles Give Way to a Hard-Earned Finish Aubrey Dean finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:29:20, an overall pace of 10:16 per mile. Through the first ten miles, Dean held a tight, consistent rhythm between 9:20 and 10:35 per mile, keeping her cumulative pace under 9:50 for most of the race's first half. That control carried through mile 13, with her half-mile split at 2:07:14. From there, pace gradually eased, settling into the 10:00-11:00 range through mile 20 before climbing further into the 11-minute-plus range across miles 21 through 25. Miles 1 through 10 stand out as the strongest single stretch, averaging under 9:50 per mile despite Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet. The final miles reflect the natural cost of that strong opening pace, and there's room to explore a slightly more conservative early pace to preserve closing speed in future marathons.
