Strong Start Fades Late as Altitude Takes Its Toll Max Brager finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:31:08. He opened briskly, holding roughly 8:108:20 per mile through the first ten miles, then eased through the midrace before losing significant time from mile 18 onward, with splits stretching past 13, 16, and even 20 minutes per mile before a final push brought him home. His fastest running of the day came in that opening stretch miles one through ten where he settled into a consistent rhythm well under 8:20 per mile, the clearest sign of controlled pacing before the course wore him down. That late fade came as Boulder's elevation, sitting above 5,000 feet, made itself felt in the closing miles. Brager still capped things off with a strong final surge into downtown Boulder, closing out on the historic Pearl Street Mall.
