Strong Early Pace Fuels Runner-Up Age-Group Finish Mitch Goldstein crossed the marathon finish in 4:13:53, placing second in the men's 65-69 division. He was actually first in his age group through the first 20 miles of the race, a testament to a well-managed opening effort before the closing miles cost him one spot. Goldstein's fastest stretch came in the first six miles, covered in roughly 48:06 for an average of about 8:01 per mile. From there his cumulative pace eased steadily, settling near 9:00 per mile by mile 19 and continuing to slow through the finish, with the final miles run in the 11-12 minute range. That early speed, sustained at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, set up the bulk of his overall time.
