Steady Start Fades Into a Late-Race Rally Jennifer Kwiecinski completed the marathon in 5:15:46, an overall pace of 12:03 per mile across the 26.2-mile course. Her cumulative pace tells the story of a race that began briskly and gradually eased: the opening 10 miles were her fastest stretch, covered at roughly 10:15 per mile, before the middle miles slid into the 11:00s and the pace continued to soften past mile 20. Miles 2123 were the toughest of the day, but she found another gear late, picking the pace back up to 13:11 and 12:43 over miles 25 and 26 to close out the effort. That finish came on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a city sitting at over 5,000 feet of elevation, adding context to the steady grind of the back half.
