Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Jim Herbst Jr #12687 Race: 2026 Boulderthon Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles

Steady Middle Miles Before a Late Fade Jim Herbst Jr crossed the Boulderthon Marathon finish in 4:21:49, averaging 9:59 min/mile. His race settled into a strong rhythm early, holding between 8:37 and 8:58 min/mile through the first eight miles. That consistency carried well into the back half, with splits staying in the 8:50s to 9:30s range from mile 3 through mile 18 a full 15-mile stretch of controlled, even effort. The final 10K told a different story, as his pace eased from 10:11 into the 12- and 14-minute range over the last several miles, closing out the effort at a steadier, more measured tempo. Herbst's race unfolded on a course that winds past Boulder Reservoir and through Boulder County backroads before finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder all at an elevation above 5,000 feet.
