Strong Opening Miles Give Way to a Tough Back Stretch Matt Steele finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:14:05, averaging 9:41 per mile across the 26.2-mile course. His race unfolded in two distinct halves: a steady, well-executed opening spanning miles 1 through 17 at roughly 8:20 per mile, followed by a gradual fade over the closing nine miles as pace eased into the 10-to-13-minute range. Miles 1 through 3 stood out as his fastest sustained stretch, clicking off at an 8:13 pace despite Boulder's mile-high elevation. That rhythm held firm well past the halfway point before loosening near the lululemon Power-Up Zone around mile 22.5, where his pace slipped into the 12-to-13-minute range through the final miles. Steele brought it home with a finish down the historic Pearl Street Mall.
