Fast Start Carries a Solid Marathon Finish Liam O'Callaghan crossed the line in 3:48:28, placing 226th overall and 186th among men in a field of 3,305. He went out quick, banking sub-7:40 miles through the first 11 miles and holding that rhythm into the mid-teens before the pace eased over the second half, closing with a string of miles in the 9:3010:40 range through the final 10K. His sharpest stretch came early: miles 3 through 5 averaged 7:16 per mile, his fastest three-mile run of the day and a clear high point in an otherwise steady effort. That kind of early pace, sustained at altitude Boulder sits above 5,000 feet set up the bulk of his time before the closing miles cost him ground. A touch more even pacing across the back half could help him hold onto that early speed longer next time.
