Sharp Pacing Fuels a Personal-Best Marathon David Blanchard finished in 3:26:23, placing 85th overall and 75th among men in a field of 3,305 his fastest of three Boulderthon marathon finishes, improving from 3:40:33 last year and 3:52:21 the year before. Blanchard ran a controlled first half, settling into a 7:317:37 per-mile rhythm through the middle miles, with a strong two-mile surge from miles 11 to 12 covering that stretch at roughly 7:07 per mile his fastest sustained running of the race. He held near 7:30s pace through mile 21 before easing over the closing miles, a natural trade-off after his quickest mid-race stretch. Every distance at Boulderthon finishes on the Pearl Street Mall, a fitting close to a race run at altitude in a city over 5,000 feet high.
