Fast Start Carries Through Two-Thirds Before the Pace Eases Jarett Shioshita finished the marathon in 4:36:56. He built an efficient rhythm through the first 18 miles, holding between 7:53 and 8:18 per mile and reaching that point in 2:29:37 an 8:19 average pace for that stretch. The final miles slowed considerably, with his overall pace settling to 10:34 per mile by the finish. Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, a backdrop to that steady early pace. His race also passed through the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5, where he was working through a 16:28 split, before closing out the course on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
