Steady Early Pace Gives Way to a Tough Final 10K Raul Calderon finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:23:21, averaging 10:03 per mile over the 26.2-mile course. Calderon built a strong foundation through the first 20 miles, holding between 8:22 and 9:38 per mile and reaching the 20-mile mark in 3:02:02 an overall pace of 9:06. Miles 1 through 10 were especially consistent, clicking off in the 8:20s-8:50s range aside from one 9:13 split, a strong opening stretch at any elevation, let alone Boulder's altitude above 5,000 feet. The final 10K told a different story: miles 21-25 slowed into the 12-15 minute range, before he closed with an 11:25 final mile to reach the Pearl Street Mall finish. That late fade, following such an even effort through 20 miles, suggests the next race could benefit from slightly more conservative pacing over the opening two-thirds to preserve strength for the closing miles.
