Steady Early Pace Fuels Top-10% Marathon Finish Isabel Ortega finished the marathon in 3:52:24, placing 278th overall out of the field of 3,305 and 53rd among women. Her race built on a strong and controlled first half: through 13 miles she held a steady 8:21 per-mile pace, ranging from a brisk 7:40 in mile 11 to a still-solid 9:34 in mile 14. That first-half consistency set up the rest of the effort, even as the pace eased through the closing miles, settling into the 9:3010:20 range from mile 21 onward before the final push to 3:52:24. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Ortega's early-race discipline paid dividends, carrying her into the top 10% of the field. The marathon's final miles wind toward downtown Boulder, and she carried her effort home to the finish on the Pearl Street Mall.
