Steady Early Pace Gives Way to a Determined Final Stretch William Schaefer finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:39:35, placing 7th in the M60-64 division. This was slower than his 2024 Boulderthon finish of 4:28:35, when he also placed 7th in his age group. Schaefer's race unfolded in three distinct phases. Through the first 10 miles, he ran a strong and consistent pace, averaging around 9:50 per mile and holding between 9:26 and 10:18 on every split his fastest sustained stretch of the day. From miles 11 through 20, his pace eased gradually into the 10:00s as elapsed pace crept from 9:54 to 10:09 per mile. The final 6 miles told a tougher story, with per-mile splits slipping into the 12-minute range as he pushed past the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5 and battled through to the Pearl Street Mall finish, closing with a 11:36 final mile that showed a fight to the line.
