A Strong Closing Kick Rescues a Tough Middle Eduard Garcia crossed the marathon finish line on the Pearl Street Mall in 6:18:38. His race opened well, holding roughly 10:40-13:30 miles through mile 8, before the middle miles stretched into the 17-23 minute range between miles 9 and 20. From there he turned things around, closing miles 23 through 26 at a steady 10:54-10:58 min/mile pace the strongest sustained mile-plus stretch of his day. That rebound began right around the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5, where his pace dropped from 13:39 to 10:58 in the space of a mile a clear lift heading into the closing miles. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, finishing with four straight miles under 11 minutes stands out as a well-managed close to a long day on the course.
