Strong Early Pace Carries a Top-4% Marathon Finish Jarek Schmanski finished the marathon in 3:31:32, placing 118th overall (top 4% of the field) and 105th among men. His race built steadily through the first half, settling into the low-7:00s per mile by miles 4-6, the fastest stretch of his day, before holding a consistent 7:30s pace through mile 18. The back half showed the expected marathon fade, with per-mile splits drifting into the 8:009:00s from mile 19 onward as cumulative pace eased from 7:39 to 8:05 min/mile by the finish. Racing at Boulder's altitude, over 5,000 feet, and covering the marathon's backroads before finishing on the Pearl Street Mall, Schmanski's steady front-half execution set up a solid overall result despite the late-race slowdown.
