Steady Pace Fuels a Strong Marathon Finish Trevor Hunnicutt covered the Boulderthon Marathon in 3:58:24, an average pace of 9:05 per mile. He opened efficiently, covering the first 10 miles in 1:28:36 (about 8:52 per mile), and held that rhythm through the mid-race stretch before easing slightly into the mid-teens. The closing miles saw a natural cooling in pace, dropping toward 9:30-9:57 per mile between miles 21 and 25, but he rallied for a strong final mile at 9:10, finishing faster than his previous five splits a solid close after four hours of steady effort at altitude. Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, adding a layer of difficulty to any endurance effort at this distance. Hunnicutt's marathon took him out past the Boulder Reservoir and through the county backroads before the always-memorable finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder a fitting cap to a well-paced 26.2 miles.
