Strong Early Pace Fades Late but Finishes Strong on the Mall Jack Rudrum completed the marathon in 4:11:07. His race showed a well-controlled opening: through mile 12 he held between 7:54 and 8:41 per mile, keeping cumulative pace under 8:10/mile for the first third of the race. The middle miles drifted gradually into the 9:00s, but the toughest stretch came from mile 19 to 21, where splits slowed to 11:30, 11:30, and 13:27, pushing overall pace up to 9:02/mile by mile 21. He steadied over the final miles, closing with an 11:01 last mile that pulled his overall pace back down to 9:35/mile at the finish. Boulder sits above 5,000 feet of elevation, a backdrop for that early sub-8:00 stretch through the first 12 miles. Like every distance at the event, his race ended on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
