Strong Early Pace Fades Late in the Marathon Iris Frome completed the marathon in 4:16:32, an overall pace of 9:47 per mile. Frome's first ten miles were remarkably even, holding between 8:46 and 9:07 per mile and reaching the 10-mile mark in 1:29:36 an average of 8:57 per mile for that stretch, her strongest of the day. Pace held steady near 9:00 per mile through the half, then eased through the middle miles before slowing more noticeably after mile 20, with several miles in the 10:3012:30 range as the race wore on. The final two miles picked back up to 11:09 and 10:38, closing out a race run entirely above 5,000 feet of elevation.
