Even-Keeled Effort Builds Into a Late Surge Jordan Whitacre finished the marathon in 4:36:34, an overall pace of 10:33 per mile. After an opening mile near 9:52, his pace drifted into the 11:0012:00 range through miles 39 before settling back down, and he closed steadily, trimming his cumulative pace almost every mile from mile 17 onward. His strongest two-mile stretch came at miles 1618, covered in 19:21 a 9:40 per mile pace, the fastest sustained stretch of his race. That surge came shortly before Boulders altitude, over 5,000 feet, would have made any push more taxing, and he carried solid form past the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5 before finishing on the Pearl Street Mall.
