Steady Pacing Carries Marathoner Into Top 3 Percent Chris Rivera finished the marathon in 3:28:19, placing 95th overall and 85th among men in a field of 3,305. His mile splits sat in the high 7:40s through the mid-teens, and he ran his fastest mile of the day at mile 11 in 7:24, part of a strong middle stretch from miles 9 through 19 that held between 7:38 and 7:59 per mile. The final six miles cooled slightly, drifting into the 8:20-8:40 range, but his overall pace of 7:57 per mile reflects a race run with little variance start to finish. Rivera's marathon took him out past Boulder Reservoir and along the county backroads before finishing on the Pearl Street Mall, all at over 5,000 feet of elevation terrain that makes his consistent pacing through the race's middle portion stand out.
