Fast Start Fuels a Long, Patient Finish Anthony De Leon completed the marathon in 4:19:18. He opened strong, running his first six miles between 7:46 and 8:06 per mile and reaching the 6-mile mark in 47:38. That early pace held reasonably well through the middle miles, with splits in the 8:239:47 range from miles 7 through 18. The final 10K brought a clear shift, as per-mile splits stretched into the 11- to 13-minute range, closing out the back stretch of the course at a steadier, more measured effort than the day's early miles. The marathon course runs out past Boulder Reservoir and along Boulder County backroads before returning downtown to finish on the historic Pearl Street Mall a course covered at altitude, with Boulder sitting over 5,000 feet above sea level.
