Big Second-Half Fade Can't Erase a Major Personal Breakthrough Sophia Duax finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:30:23, a improvement of over 31 minutes from her 2024 finish of 5:02:09 on the same course. Her overall pace dropped from 11:31 to 10:19 per mile, and she moved up in her gender field from 230th to 202nd. The race unfolded in two distinct halves. Through the first 13 miles, Duax ran a steady, controlled pace in the 8:30s, reaching the halfway point in 1:52:57. Miles 1 through 5 were especially strong, holding between 8:31 and 8:39 per mile. The back half told a different story, with pace slipping into the 9s, then 10s, and finally into the 13-to-18 minute range between miles 21 and 23, before settling in for a final push to the Pearl Street Mall finish. This year's marathon course also featured a reworked route with less overall elevation gain than in previous editions, a notable factor given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet.
