Steady Pace Through Three-Quarters, Then a Fade She finished the marathon in 3:57:32, averaging 9:03 per mile across the 26.2-mile distance. Her pace stayed remarkably even through the race's first three-quarters before loosening over the closing miles, a shape that shaped her overall time. Through 18 miles she covered the distance in 2:26:53, an average of about 8:10 per mile the strongest sustained stretch of her race before the pace eased over the second half. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, she carried that early rhythm into the finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
