Steady Through 20, Then a Fast Closing Mile Spencer Shreve completed the marathon in 4:22:07, holding a consistent 9:3510:14 per mile rhythm from mile 2 through mile 20 despite a brief mile 7 slowdown to 11:05. The pace eased in the mid-20s, with miles 24 and 25 slipping to 12:01 and 12:23, before he rallied for an 8:44 final mile his fastest full mile of the race to close things out. That finishing surge came after crossing into downtown Boulder, where the race ends on the historic Pearl Street Mall, a fitting stage for the day's strongest mile. Given the steady middle miles, Shreve might look at ways to carry more of that mile-11 rhythm (8:45) into the back stretch on his next attempt, sustaining the closing kick over a longer stretch.
