Strong Early Pace Fades Late But Holds Top-Tier Finish Andrew Fox finished the marathon in 3:24:40, placing 72nd overall and 64th among men out of the field of 3,305. His early pacing was the highlight: from mile 1 through mile 18 he held between 6:45 and 7:41 per mile, with a strong surge in mile 11 (6:45) keeping his cumulative pace near 7:20 for most of the race's first two-thirds. The final third told a different story, as his per-mile splits climbed steadily from 8:03 at mile 20 to a peak of 10:13 at mile 24 before settling back to 8:24 by the finish. Despite that late slowdown, his overall pace of 7:48 per mile reflects a well-built first half. Fittingly, his effort played out on a course finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a city sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation.
