Strong Early Pace Fades Over Final 10K Patrick Finney completed the marathon in 4:07:54, an average pace of 9:27 per mile. His race built steadily from a swift opening before elevation and distance wore into his rhythm through the second half. Finney's first five miles were his standout stretch, clicking off in roughly 7:26 per mile, among the fastest early splits in the field. Cumulative pace held under 8:00 per mile through mile 16, but the final 10 miles told a different story, with per-mile splits climbing into the 10-13 minute range as fatigue set in. The marathon course at Boulderthon carries a net elevation gain of 982 feet, run at over 5,000 feet above sea level, a combination that tests pacing discipline over the back half. Finney's early speed suggests strong fitness; a more even split between the front and back halves could help him close as strongly as he starts.
