Strong Early Pace Anchors a Steady Marathon Finish Robert Pipal finished the marathon in 3:51:30, placing 263rd overall and 215th among men in a field of 3,305. He set the tone early, covering miles 1 through 9 at an average pace of roughly 7:57 per mile the fastest sustained stretch of his race. From there, his pace eased gradually through the middle miles before softening further in the closing stages, a controlled fade rather than a sudden drop. Boulder's altitude, over 5,000 feet, adds weight to any marathon effort here. Robert's slowest mile came right around mile 22.5, near the lululemon Power-Up Zone, before he found rhythm again to close out his run on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
