Underwood's pace was strongest through the first six miles, averaging 6:39 per mile as he settled into rhythm early. A brief dip through miles 8-9, where his split pace slowed to 7:15 and 7:18, gave way to a modest recovery over the closing miles, settling near 7:01-7:05 per mile to the finish. That opening six-mile stretch stands as the fastest sustained running of his race. With the 2026 half marathon course redesigned to cut net elevation gain nearly in half, from 384 to 203 feet, Underwood's even pacing across the back half reflects well on a course that offered fewer late climbs to manage.
