Strong Front Half Gives Way to a Gritty Finish Giovanni Florenca completed the marathon in 4:28:23. He built a steady foundation over the opening 13 miles, holding between 8:22 and 8:53 pace and reaching the halfway point in 1:51:20 the fastest sustained stretch of his race. From mile 14 on, his per-mile pace eased into the 10-to-14-minute range, with the final 10K settling near 13-minute miles, bringing his overall elapsed pace to 10:14 per mile by the finish. That opening 13-mile stretch came on a course that runs out past the Boulder Reservoir before returning to the Pearl Street Mall, all at Boulder's 5,000-plus feet of elevation a setting that makes the early consistency he showed worth building on for next time.
