Steady Early Miles Give Way to a Late Rally After a Rough Patch Alycca Kimbrell finished the marathon in 4:13:37, an average pace of 9:40 per mile. Her early and middle miles were remarkably consistent, holding between 8:50 and 9:30 per mile through the first 20 miles, with cumulative pace never drifting past 9:15. Miles 21 through 24 brought a sharp slowdown, each split landing between 11:08 and 13:19, before she closed with two rallying miles at 9:49 and 9:35. The strongest stretch came from miles 11 to 13, where she covered three miles in 8:04, 8:53, and 8:21 her fastest sustained running of the race. That surge came at elevation, with Boulder sitting over 5,000 feet, adding extra difficulty to holding sub-9:00 pace at that stage of a marathon.
