Strong Front Half Gives Way to a Tough Closing Stretch Trevor Peters completed the marathon in 4:05:40, an average pace of 9:22 per mile. His early race was the highlight: through 15 miles he held a sub-8:00 per mile pace, reaching that point in just under two hours. Miles 16 through 23 told a different story, with per-mile splits climbing into the 10- to nearly 14-minute range as cumulative pace slipped from 8:07 to 9:13 per mile over that stretch. He steadied briefly in the closing miles, trimming his overall pace back down slightly to finish at 9:22 per mile. The finish came on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a fitting capstone after such a strong opening 15 miles at altitude above 5,000 feet. Given how well the first two-thirds of the race went, working on sustaining that early rhythm through the back half could be a rewarding focus for next time.
