Strong Middle Miles Power a Marathon Rebound Herman Solis finished the marathon in 3:55:19, placing 315th overall and 251st among men in a field of 3,305. That result falls between his two previous Boulderthon marathons: a big improvement on his 4:32:11 finish, though short of his 3:41:30 effort last year. His pace was steadiest and strongest from miles 9 through 14, holding between 8:13 and 8:20 per mile, the most consistent stretch of his race. After building through the middle miles, his pace eased over the closing 10K, settling into the high 9:00s and 10:00s per mile as he moved through the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5. He crossed the finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a city sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation. A focus on maintaining that mid-race rhythm deeper into the course could be a useful target next time.
