Rock-Steady Pacing Carries a Strong Marathon Finish Calvin Chan finished in 3:44:37, placing 190th overall and 163rd among men in a field of 3,305 at age 54. Chan's race unfolded with remarkable consistency, holding a cumulative pace between 8:23 and 8:35 per mile through the first 21 miles. His strongest stretch came from miles 15 to 18, where he clicked off splits of 8:27, 8:32, 8:29, and 8:24, tightening his overall pace even as the race wore on. A brief dip to 8:52 at mile 22 was quickly answered with a rally to 8:34 by mile 24, showing solid control late in the effort. Running at altitude, with Boulder sitting more than 5,000 feet above sea level, Chan's ability to sustain such an even effort across 26.2 miles stands out as the defining feature of his race.
