Strong Opening Miles Set the Pace Before a Late Fade Devin Schell finished the marathon in 4:00:13, an average pace of 9:10 per mile. He opened briskly, covering the first 12 miles in 1:38:28 roughly 8:12 per mile and held that rhythm through the mid-race before the pace loosened from mile 18 on, with several late miles drifting past 10:30 as he worked toward the finish on the Pearl Street Mall. That opening 12-mile stretch was the clear highlight, sustained comfortably between 7:46 and 9:07 per mile. Mile 22, where runners pass the lululemon Power-Up Zone, came in at 11:09 as the effort settled into its closing gears. Completing 26.2 miles at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet adds useful context to the overall effort.
