Strong Late Surge Fuels a Top-Tier Marathon Finish Elijah Kosak crossed the marathon line in 3:35:35, good for 139th overall and 120th among men in a field of 3,305. After settling into the low-8:00s through the opening miles, he hit a rough patch at mile 9 (9:55) before steadying back into rhythm. From there, his pace tightened steadily, dropping into the high-7:00s by the second half and never drifting back into the 8:30s again. His strongest stretch came at miles 19-20, each covered in 7:34, the fastest sustained running of his race, as he pushed through the closing miles of a course that winds out past Boulder Reservoir before finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall. That surge carried into a well-controlled final 5K, with miles 24-26 averaging right around 8:00 pace despite Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet - a strong, controlled close to a well-paced marathon.
