Race Recap powered by Laurel Intelligence

Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Mark Scalmanini #10048 Race: 2026 Boulderthon Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles

Strong Early Pace Fades Late in Marathon Debut Mark Scalmanini finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:30:09. He moved steadily through the first half, settling into the high 8:00-8:30 per mile range between miles 10 and 17, reaching halfway near an 8:54 pace. That stretch from miles 10 through 17 was his fastest sustained running of the race, holding tight and consistent splits despite the elevation in Boulder, which sits above 5,000 feet. The back half told a different story, with pace slipping mile by mile from the high 9:00s into the mid-teens by mile 23, before settling again over the final miles to the finish. There's room to build strength for the closing miles, where the effort of the first 20 clearly caught up. The consistency shown through the middle miles is a strong foundation to carry forward, and pacing the final 10K a touch more conservatively could help preserve that early rhythm all the way to the Pearl Street Mall finish.
