Strong Early Pace Fuels a Steady Marathon Finish Ernesto Hernandez completed the marathon in 6:24:26, an elapsed pace of 14:40 per mile across the 26.2-mile course. He opened briskly, covering the first mile in 10:08, and held closely to that rhythm through the first 10 miles before the pace gradually eased over the back half of the race, settling into the mid-to-high teens per mile by the final 10K. His strongest sustained stretch came in the first 10 miles, completed in 1:52:23 for an 11:14 per mile pace, the fastest mile-plus segment of his race. That opening effort carried him through downtown Boulder and out toward Boulder Countys backroads before the course looped past the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5, where his mile splits held in the 18-19 minute range as he worked toward the finish on the Pearl Street Mall.
