Strong Pacing Through Midrace Fuels a Top-Five-Percent Finish Alexander Sauer crossed the marathon finish in 3:38:10, placing 153rd overall and 131st among men out of the field of 3,305. His race built steadily: after opening in the 8:15-8:25 range, he tightened his pace through the middle miles, dipping into the high 7:00s by mile 11 and holding sub-8:15 splits all the way to mile 20 before easing to 9:00-9:10 pace over miles 21-25 and closing with an 8:28 final mile. The strongest stretch came from miles 9 through 11, where he covered three miles in roughly 23:55, a pace near 7:58 per mile, marking his fastest sustained running of the race. That effort came at altitude, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet, adding weight to the pace he sustained through the race's midsection.
