Strong Start Fuels a Steady Marathon Finish Julia Giecold completed the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:00:00, an overall pace of 9:09 per mile. Giecold opened briskly, covering the first six miles in roughly 8:17 per mile the fastest sustained stretch of her race before easing into the 8:30s and 8:40s through the middle miles. Pace slipped further between miles 18 and 23, dipping into the 9:3011:10 range, before she rallied over the final three miles, closing in 9:35, 9:31, and 9:09 to finish right at her overall pace. That late surge, on a course finishing on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder above 5,000 feet of elevation, capped a race defined by an assertive early tempo and a composed recovery through the closing miles.
