Steady Early Pace Gives Way to a Strong Closing Mile Will opened his marathon with a disciplined rhythm, covering his first six miles in an average of 9:21 per mile the fastest sustained stretch of his race. From there, his cumulative pace eased steadily, slipping past 10:00/mile by mile 20 and further into the 10:20s through the low 20s. He then turned things around, closing with a 9:46 final mile, well under his overall 10:25 min/mile elapsed pace, to finish in 4:33:12. The later miles carried him past the course's Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5, where his pace had eased into the 1112 minute range before he found his late kick. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, he finished on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
