Steady Early Miles Give Way to a Strong Closing Kick Rowan Mcintyre finished the marathon in 4:32:11, holding a consistent 9:209:50 per-mile rhythm through the first 18 miles before the pace eased into the low 10:00s and eventually the 1213 minute range from miles 19 through 23. He closed strong, dropping back to a 9:59 mile over the final stretch into downtown Boulder. That opening 18-mile stretch was the highlight of the race, run at altitude above 5,000 feet with barely any variance mile to mile. The course's stretch past Boulder Reservoir lines up with where his pace held firmest, and the tougher miles arrived later, near the lululemon Power-Up Zone around mile 22.5, before he found another gear to finish on the Pearl Street Mall.
