Steady Pace Through 18 Miles Powers Runner-Up Finish Ben Kuster, 61, of Longmont, completed the marathon in 4:01:14, placing second in the men's 60-64 division. Kuster's pacing through the first 18 miles was remarkably consistent, holding between 8:26 and 8:58 per mile for an overall clip near 8:34 a strong showing given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet. From mile 19 on, his pace eased into the 9:2811:23 range as the closing miles took their toll, before he crossed the finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
