Steady Early Miles Give Way to a Strong Mid-Race Surge Before a Late Fade Nicholas Wilhelm finished the marathon in 4:02:37, an overall pace of 9:15 per mile. His race built steadily through the middle miles, holding in the high 8:40s per mile from roughly mile 6 through mile 21. The standout stretch came between miles 14 and 19, where he covered five miles in 43:32, an 8:42 per mile pace, his fastest sustained running of the day. The final miles told a different story: from mile 22 to the finish, his pace slipped into the 9:0011:20 per mile range as fatigue set in over the closing stretch. Boulder's elevation, over 5,000 feet, provided a demanding backdrop for that effort. Wilhelm's late-race dip began right around the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5, before he carried on to finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
