Strong Start Gives Way to a Hard-Earned Finish Zion Kukaewkasem covered the marathon in 4:02:05, holding sub-8:00 pace for the first 17 miles before the closing miles slowed the overall pace to 9:14 per mile by the finish. The middle-to-late stages saw a steady erosion, with per-mile splits stretching from the 9:38 mark at mile 18 out toward 13:05 by mile 25, before a slight rebound in the final mile. The opening 7 miles were the highlight, clicking off in the 7:067:55 range and settling to a cumulative 7:45/mile pace at that point his fastest sustained stretch of the day. Racing across Boulders course, which sits above 5,000 feet of elevation, he'll have plenty to build on for pacing the back half more evenly next time.
