Steady Early Pace Gives Way to a Tough Final 10K Nicholas Gutierrez completed the Boulderthon Marathon in 4:29:47, finishing 111th in the M30-34 division out of a field of 3,305. Gutierrez ran the first 20 miles with real consistency, holding a tight band between 8:48 and 9:24 per mile and reaching the 20-mile mark in 3:06:04, an average of 9:18 per mile for that stretch. That steadiness came at altitude, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet. The final 10K told a different story, as his per-mile pace slipped into the 12-to-15-minute range, pushing his overall elapsed pace to 10:17 by the finish. With that opening 20-mile pace as a proven baseline, working on sustaining it deeper into the back stretch could be a worthwhile focus before crossing the line on the Pearl Street Mall again.
