Strong Early Pace Fades Late in Marathon Debut Eli Churchwell finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:30:55. He was locked into a tight rhythm through the opening 17 miles, holding between 8:31 and 8:50 per mile, before the pace gradually loosened over the back half. Miles 1 through 6 were his standout stretch, covering that six-mile block in roughly 8:35 per mile and building an early cushion that carried him deep into the race. The final 10K told a different story, with per-mile splits climbing into the mid-teens as fatigue set in, particularly between miles 21 and 23. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, that early consistency through the first half is worth building on a touch more reserve in the middle miles could help him hold his early rhythm deeper into future races on this course.
